Carl Starfelt does have a get out clause in his Rubin Kazan contract but according to the Daily Record he’d need to take a wage cut if he used it to push through a move to Celtic.

The 26-year-old seems to be exactly what Celtic are looking for to bolster their fragile looking defence but more than two weeks on from speaking about his plans to reshape Celtic only Osaze Urhoghide has been added to the squad that Ange Postecoglou is working with.

After signing a new contract with Rubin in February the Russian side will have a big influence on where Starfelt plays his football but that new deal does have one option in Celtic’s favour.

The Daily Record reports:

Rubin Kazan’s Carl Starfelt is a player the Hoops are pushing for. He has a release clause that Celtic are trying to trigger but the player would have to take a cut to make the deal happen. The Swedish international, however, is keen to move to Scotland after two years in Russia.

With Peter Lawwell and Nicky Hammond no longer at the club it isn’t known who is in charge of Celtic’s transfer negotiations.

This afternoon the hoops take on Charlton with just 10 days to go until the Champions League qualifier at home to Midtjylland.
