Sheffield has suddenly become the centre-point of Celtic’s transfer activity.

It is an unusual twist with Israel, France or parts of Scandinavia usually closely scouted for players in recent times.

Mike Trusson is a little known figure but last November he quit his job as a European scout for Celtic to team up with Tony Pulis for an ill-fated spell in Yorkshire.

With Wednesday undergoing a traumatic season the Pulis-Trusson double act only lasted 10 matches, being followed by Neil Thompson and Darren Moore before relegation was confirmed.

Joining Sheffield Wednesday in November he told the club website:

I was working as a European scout for Celtic and I was enjoying that but when you get this opportunity at such a great, historical club like Sheffield Wednesday, it was a no-brainer.

The one thing that strikes me is there’s a lot of quality in the squad. Our challenge is to bring that quality out, make the players better and start getting results

Neil Lennon announced the signing of Liam Shaw before he quit as managed with the former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder joined yesterday by Osaze Urhoghide.

After a season of struggle in The Championship both players will be looking forward to a new start at Celtic but will quickly discover a very different type of pressure.

With Celtic short of players in all areas there may be more prospects to be found in Hillsborough, next week’s friendly in Wales could be interesting on a number of levels.
