Nir Bitton turned to Instagram last night to say Sorry but there weren’t many signs of forgiveness among the Celtic support.
The Israeli was drafted in to add experience to a youthful defence but a moment of madness turned the Champions League tie against Midtjylland in favour of the Danes with a teenager thrown on for his debut.
Liel Abada had given Celtic the perfect boost by scoring in the 39th minute but before the interval, already on a yellow card, Bitton decided to confront Anders Dreyer who fell to the deck looking for a penalty.
Referee Sandro Scharer had already decided to book Dreyer but for reasons only he knows Bitton faced up to the Midtjylland forward and raised a finger to his face.
Within a minute Bitton was red carded, Abada withdrawn and Dane Murray sent on for his debut- in a Champions League qualifier.
Vasilis Barkas was to blame for the Midtjylland equaliser but Bitton’s inclusion and red card won’t be forgotten by a visit to Instagram. The Israeli automatically misses next week’s return leg through suspension.
