Celtic will need to pay more than £4m to sign Kevin Nisbet from Hibs. The striker moved to Easter Road from Dunfermline last summer for a fee reported to be around £300,000- plus add-ons.

Yesterday Celtic announced that Leigh Griffiths had signed a 12 month contract but on previous form it would be very ambitious to expect the former Wolves striker to put in 40 plus appearances.

With Odsonne Edouard in the final year of his contract there is a lot of uncertainty over the striking situation, explaining the situation in the Daily Mail, Stephen McGowan writes:

The club need fresh blood up front and work has begun to establish how much it would cost to lure Nisbet from Easter Road, with the Edinburgh outfit thought to be holding out for more than £4million.

A late substitute in all three of Scotland’s Euro 2020 games against the Czech Republic, England and Croatia, the 24-year-old returns to pre-season training this weekend, with Celtic among a number of interested clubs.

Birmingham City had a package worth £3.2m turned down in January, and the Championship side remain in the hunt for Nisbet alongside Swansea, Brentford, Nottingham Forest and Russian club FC Krasnodar.

Hibs are prepared to speak to potential suitors but have no need to sell and, with a hefty sell-on due to Nisbet’s former club Dunfermline, will insist on a fee in excess of £4m.

Celtic paid Hibs £4m for Scott Brown in 2007 with that fee still standing as a record between two Scottish clubs.

With Peter Lawwell removed from the process negotiations between Celtic and Hibs might be a little easier than when the two clubs spoke about John McGinn three years ago.

One unlikely but possible solution could be Griffiths moving to Hibs as part of a deal for Nisbet, until noon on July 1 it looked like Celtic had parted company with Griffiths.
