Alan Nixon has claimed that James McCarthy is definitely being discussed by Celtic.
Since the moment the teenage midfielder left Hamilton for Wigan a decade ago he has been regularly linked with a move to Celtic.
McCarthy was released by Crystal Palace at the end of last season and has still to take up an offer for the new season.
Injuries have been an issue for McCarthy over the last few years, last season he only managed to start 10 EPL matches for Crystal Palace in the second and final year of his two year Selhurst deal.

Callum McGregor, Ismaila Soro and David Turnbull have been the regular midfield trio for Ange Postecoglou with little competition beyond those three players.
McCarthy could probably pick up a lucrative contract as a squad player at half a dozen EPL clubs but Celtic could offer him a more regular game but would have to put a convincing case together to get the 30-year-old to return to Scotland.
