Ange Postecoglou has revealed that Leigh Griffiths missed the win over AZ Alkmaar after going through a heavy Lennoxtown training session.

The former Hibs striker was on the bench for Sunday’s Premier Sports Cup win over Hearts but was left out of the squad last night with Scott Robertson coming in as a sub.

Since being handed a 12 month contract on July 1 Griffiths has only played 35 minutes with a number of Celtic fans booing him during the friendly against West Ham.

That brief appearance was followed by a calf injury that ruled him out of five matches before he was named as a substitute against Hearts.

Explaining the situation with Griffiths, Postecoglou told the Daily Record:

We just felt he needed another training session, he was working hard back at Lennoxtown today with a few others and there’s nothing too sinister there.

Should Celtic get rid of Leigh Griffiths?

With Postecoglou highlighting the overload on a tight squad of players Griffiths should be involved in Saturday’s squad to face St Mirren.

Kyogo Furuhashi started off as the main striker last night before being replaced in the second half by Odsonne Edouard, Albian Ajeti was an unused substitute.
