Celtic appear to be in a head-to-head battle with Werder Bremen to sign Georgios Giakoumakis from VVV Venlo.
The striker has visited the German side but the prospect of a deal with Celtic and guaranteed European football should be brighter than a season in the second tier of German football.
Celtic have also been strongly linked with Thomas Henry of OH Leuven but the personal approach of Celtic’s Greek-Australian could be a factor in his decision.
I’m told that Giakoumakis & his agent visited Bremen last night to see the club’s facilities and held informal discussions.
Bremen had a bid of £1.7m rejected by Venlo, but have not given up hope.

Despite VVV Venlo being relegated last season Giakoumakis was the top scorer in the Dutch league ahead of the big guns at Ajax and PSV Eindhoven.
Venlo paid AEK Athens £300,000 to sign the 26-year-old last season after being out on loan at Gornik Zabze.
Turning over a profit of £2m or more from selling Giakoumakis would go a long way to finding Venlo’s promotion push.
