Brighton face competition from Southampton for the signing of Odsonne Edouard.

Graham Potter’s side seemed to be in pole position to sign the Celtic striker but Jack Grealish’s £100m transfer has impacted the English market with Aston Villa snapping up Danny Ings for £25m.

A week to go before the start of the EPL season Southampton have a big gap to fill in their strike force with Celtic the usual outlet they turn to for players.

Fraser Forster, Victor Wanyama, Virgil van Dijk and Stuart Armstrong have all taken the road to St Mary’s with Southampton well aware of the quality and value that they get from Celtic.

The Sun reports:

SOUTHAMPTON are set to battle Brighton for Odsonne Edouard by making a £20million swoop for the hitman.

But SunSport understands the Celtic star will need to reduce his wage demands first. Saints want Edouard to replace Danny Ings, who joined Aston Villa in a £25m deal last week.

Brighton are in talks with the Hoops over a deal for the Frenchman, with negotiations set to continue into next week. But south-coast rivals Saints have also been making calls on what it would take to land the 23-year-old hitman.

Should Celtic accept the first £20m bid for Odsonne Edouard?

Yes, get it done. Move on

A bidding war would be ideal for Celtic but with just over three weeks to go in the transfer window Ange Postecoglou still has a large number of positions needing strengthening.

Kyogo Furuhashi and Liel Abada were on the scoresheet against Jablonec in midweek but with little prospect of Albian Ajeti or Leigh Griffiths contributing another striker will be high on Postecoglou’s transfer wish list.
