Celtic have announced the loan signing of Jota on loan from Benfica. It is the first loan deal completed by Ange Postecoglou.

The 22-year-old is expected to play left-wing in Celtic’s 4-3-3 formation, in recent games James Forrest, Ryan Christie and Kyogo Furuhashi have been selected to fill that role.

There has been speculation since the weekend that Jota was Celtic-bound with the announcement made shortly after Bournemouth signed Ryan Christie.

The arrivals of Jota and Giorgos Giakoumakis gives Postecoglou some certainty to work with as he prepares the second phase of his transformation plan.

Despite two defeats out of four in the SPFL reaching the group stage of the Europa League is a relative success considering the size of the rebuild that the new manager faced.

There are still areas of the squad badly in need of strengthening but it seems that Celtic will turn their attention to the Japanese market in January to bring the squad up to full strength.
