Celtic seem to be closing in on signing a right-back but its anyone guess whether it will be Yan Couto on loan from Manchester City of Legia Warsaw’s Josip Joranovic.

Things seemed to be stepping up a gear in midweek when Joranovic was reported to be very close to a £3m deal after Legia Warsaw were knocked out of the Champions League qualifiers.

That price tag for a current Croatian internationalist seems like great value, especially against the £8m being quoted for George Baldock of Sheffield United but on Thursday interest in Couto was stepped up.

The 19-year-old from Manchester City was reported to have attended Celtic’s 3-0 win over Jablonec but it seems that he is still looking at options rather than jumping at the path used by Jason Denayer and Patrick Roberts.

With each passing performance Tony Ralston is cementing his place in Ange Postecoglou’s side. Signing another right-back, as competition or back looks like a priority with the Daily Record (7.18) , discussing Couto this morning, reporting:

Couto wants to remain at City in the long term and is open to another season long move. But Celtic. are not dropping out of the race to land Juranovic.

Reports in Poland suggested Celts had cooled their interest but RECORD SPORT understands the Hoops are still keen on landing the £3millionrated full-back.

Juranovic is set to sit out Legia Warsaw’s league clash with Warta Poznan after picking up an injury in the Champions League qualifying defeat to Dinamo Zagreb.

The transfer window closes on August 31, after the first Glasgow derby and before the first internationals of the new season.
