Celtic have been linked with a move for Liam Scales of Shamrock Rovers.

The defender will turn 23 at the weekend, Dermot Desmond has a 25% shareholding in the Dublin side.

Despite expectations of a massive turnover of players Ange Postecoglou has had three new players delivered- two wingers plus Carl Starfelt.

Bosman projects Liam Shaw and Osaze Urhoghide haven’t been involved in any of the three competitive matches to date with Scales looking like another to fall into the project category of signing.

David Friel of The Sun reports:

CELTIC have made a move for Shamrock Rovers defender Liam Scales. The 22-year-old is also being tracked by English clubs after impressing in the League of Ireland.

But the Hoops could now land versatile left-sided defender Scales for a significant six-figure fee.  SunSport understands talks have opened – but a deal could be delayed until after Rovers’ next European tie.

The English clubs tracking Scales aren’t mentioned, in the past he has had a trial with Manchester City and almost joined Bristol Rovers.

Scales has mainly being played in central defence which suggests that Celtic’s recruitment team haven’t been convinced by the form of Stephen Welsh and Dane Murray.

In recent seasons moving to Celtic has stunted the development of Irish youth internationals Lee O’Connor, Luca Connell and Johnathan Afolabi.
