Celtic look like losing out on Aurelio Buta with Everton reported to be showing interest in the defender.

As far back as July 27 it was being reported that Celtic and Royal Antwerp had agreed a deal for the right-back but that clearly wasn’t the case.

Buta is in the final year of his contract with Antwerp with Portuguese publisher A Bola claiming that Benfica, his previous side, are due 50% of any transfer fee:

Antwerp’s Portuguese right-back Aurélio Buta continues to generate enormous greed and now Premier League’s Everton is joining the crowd.

After the Turkish Fenerbahçe and Besiktas, the Celtic of Glasgow (Scotland) even advanced with a formal proposal for the acquisition of the international by the Portuguese youth teams and formed at Benfica.

Negotiations continued for nearly two weeks, but the agreement failed as the Scottish offer was considered too low by Antwerp, which requires more than three million euros for the pass, with half of this money going to the eagles SAD coffers, given that the red emblem still holds half of the economic rights of Buta (24 years).

Eagles is the nickname of Benfica.

With Tony Ralston in form right-back isn’t quite the priority that it was a month ago but beyond Ralston Ange Postecoglou doesn’t have many options for that position.

The Australian said that the club had three options for each position that they were short in but with three weeks till the transfer window closes Celtic will need to show some urgency to bring in another right-back.
