BBC Scotland just couldn’t give Celtic any credit for their aggregate success over AZ Alkmaar.
The third best team in the Netherlands are a formidable force, they know what they are about and are nobody’s pushover.
A month ago Celtic were losing out to Midtjylland for a place in the third qualifying round of the Champions League. Over two matches Alkmaar are clearly superior to the Danes.
It was an exciting and nervy match tonight in Alkmaar, the game was in the balance from the moment a Carl Starfelt own goal in the 26th minute put Alkmaar in front on the night.
For any watching neutral it must have made compelling viewing, someone inside BBC Scotland felt that torrid was the most apt description.

In comparison the match in Armenia sounded as if it was a paint drying contest, 90 long minutes between two teams that could probably have played all night without finding the net.
Someone at BBC Scotland might be talking it up as a heroic performance but watching from home it is unlikely that Steven Gerrard will have been impressed by anything other than the aggregate scoreline.
