Celtic are reported to have ended their interest in signing Cameron Carter-Vickers from Spurs.

The central defender has a year left on his Spurs contract but the English side are adamant that he won’t go out on a seventh loan after spending last season in the Championship with Bournemouth.

Beyond Carl Starfelt and Stephen Welsh Celtic are short on options to play in central defence with Nir Bitton and Dane Murray next in line.

Reacting to speculation this afternoon, the Daily Record reports:

Celtic have been reported to have made a last-gasp attempt to land Cameron Carter-Vickers on loan from Spurs. The Hoops are long term admirers of the 23-year-old centre back but backed off with the EPL outfit looking to sell the USA star for more than £5million.

According to Sky Sports Celtic are back in the hunt after Newcastle United dropped their interest and are still hoping to pinch the stopper on a season long deal. But Record Sport understands the Hoops have dropped their interest with just hours left of the transfer window. A source close to the player revealed the club has said that “door has closed” on Carter-Vickers.

With eight hours left to go in the transfer window talks for a new signing would have to be at an advanced stage otherwise a loan would be the only option.

Chris Jullien should be back in action before the end of the year but with a full programme of Europa League and domestic fixtures ahead Ange Postecoglou will be looking for other defensive options.
