Even in the silly season this one stood out- and delivered record traffic for the Crystal Palace Transfers HQ Twitter account. Almost 600 replies in 18 hours, 90% from Celtic fans put the Eagles right on the value of Callum McGregor.
A little known French site decided to launch a £7m flyer, in these times of Chinese Whispers it soon snowballed with attention seekers all over it.
McGregor is the outstanding player in Scotland by some distance, the country that produced Kieran Tierney, John McGinn and Andy Robertson for the EPL. The Celtic captain is in that elite bracket.
As recently as mid June McGregor was down in London. Alongside a Chelsea reserve he bossed the show against the acclaimed duo of Declan Rice and Kalvin Phillips. When wonder boy Jack Grealish came on he was reminded that he was the second best loanee at Notts County eight years ago.
The Celtic board are always keen on a sale, the Balance Sheet Bhoys like to show a profit but this is one flyer that won’t be landing any time soon.

Come back when you are willing to talk real money, bang average players are leaving the championship for far more than a poultry £7m. We don’t need to sell our players, try the rangers int fc 2012, they are desperate for money they will probably bite your hand off for half that.

This is Calum McGregor. He’s extremely versatile, hence why he is wearing a GK kit. £7m will be fine. I’ll be sad to see him go pic.twitter.com/sFPfhuU4fa

Captain, in his prime, Scotland international regular, CL and Europa experience has played the most games in the UK into he last few years. £7m wouldn’t pay for his big toe. Not a dog at palace btw I like them as a club but he’s worth way more than that
