James Forrest and James McCarthy were posted missing from Celtic’s flight to Alkmaar today.

The winger started and ‘scored’ last week against the Dutch side but missed Saturday’s win over St Mirren as did McCarthy who had made two 15 minute appearances off the bench in the wins over Hearts and AZ Alkmaar.

The Sun reports:

CELTIC have been dealt a major blow ahead of their Europa League play-off clash with AZ Alkmaar.

Star winger James Forrest has not flown out with the rest of the Hoops squad to The Netherlands for the second leg of the tie. And he is joined by James McCarthy on the sidelines – with the new signing also staying in Glasgow.

For tomorrow’s match Celtic are reasonably covered with Liel Abada and Ryan Christie capable of playing out wide, in midfield Ange Postecoglou seems happy with the trio of Callum McGregor, Tom Rogic and David Turnbull.

Beyond those names there is a lack of depth to the Celtic squad, there are other names around but in the recent winning run Postecoglou has relied on a core of just 14 or 15 players. Celtic have a 2-0 lead to take into tomorrow’s match in Alkmaar as they chase a place in the group stage of the Europa League.

On Sunday Celtic visit Ibrox ahead of the winter break- and the closing of the transfer window.
