Celtic fans were made to suffer through the worst of punditry as they watched their side beat Jablonec 4-2 on BBC Scotland.
To say that Steven Thompson is wooden would be a compliment, alongside the duller than dishwater James McFadden the former Ibrox striker is in his element.
For reasons that no one has ever been able to explain Thommo has slipped from the mediocrity of his playing career into the world of media, or to be more precise BBC Scotland. No commercial channel has ever gone near his fake enthusiasm or presentation ‘skills’.
Celtic winning is clearly a topic that he would rather avoid, having to present the coverage around a Celtic victory is his nightmare scenario.
Fortunately BBC Scotland has very little access to live Celtic matches, like them or not Sky Sports value the SPFL more than other broadcasters to provide live coverage.
Despite having Michael Stewart retiring from football at a similar time to Thommo it tells you everything about the values of the BBC that the former Ibrox striker is the man they use to front up so much of their football content.
