There were many concerning aspects of John Beaton’s performance yesterday as he took charge of Celtic’s 3-2 win over Hearts.

A variety of incidents could be highlighted to question his application of the laws of the game such as a first half booking for simulation of Odsonne Edouard while Josh Ginnelly went unpunished for a similar incident early in the second half.

The first half stats above are from the BBC, assuming 10 minutes of the ball not being in play Celtic had possession for 28.7 minutes. With just three free-kicks awarded against Hearts Robbie Neilson’s side committed a foul every 9.56 minutes.

In contrast with the Jambos in possession for just 6.3 minutes they were fouled every 1.26 minutes.

Celtic were by far the dirtier team during 45 minutes in which they had 82% possession, had 20 shots at goal with none from Hearts with Celtic winning the corner count 7-0.
