Ibrox fans reacted with predictable fury to a warning notice posted by Keith Jackson in the Daily Record.

After three years staunch backing for the Gerrard Revolution losing to Malmo in the Champions League was a hammer blow to the directors that have poured millions into the company to keep the lights on.

A £30m boost from UEFA while quietly selling a player or two would have gone a long way to seeing this season through but now the club has two weeks to sell off as many of their Champions League flops as possible.

Stuck in the middle is transfer guru Ross Wilson, trying to keep the board happy with transfer fees while ensurng that Mister Gerrard is kept sweet with new faces to beat Celtic with the burden of playing in front of fans again.

Josh Windass is the only worthwhile transfer that the club has made with Wigan paying £1.75m soon after Gerrard arrived. Last summer £10m was spent on transfer fees for Kemar Roofe, Cedric Itten and Ianis Hagi to be added to the wage bill.

No amount of Cas ore kits and Ibrox pies is going to make up the shortfall with fans slow to put their hands in their pockets for the recent share issue.

The current directors could always decide to chuck in even more money for the season ahead but all of the signs are that the club is trying to cut their losses with player sales the easiest route- if anyone is willing to buy.

Back in 2011 Jackson and the Record were all in with their blind faith backing of Craig Whyte, it looks like they might have wizened up since then but today’s warning message hasn’t gone down well with their target readership.
