Kris Boyd has performed a swift U-turn on ’s SPFL title prospects, admitting that there could be an exciting title race.

Throughout the close season the former Portland Timbers ace has been dismissive of a challenge from Celtic, going as far as to suggest that there were problems behind the scenes between Ange Postecoglou and the club hierarchy.

Boyd was at on Saturday to watch Steven Gerrard’s heroes lose to United then picked up on ’s demolition of Dundee led by Kyogo Furuhashi.

There was an exciting new look to the way that played with a cutting edge that was missing throughout last season, if the scored 10 goals it wouldn’t have flattered them.

Asked if he was concerned by ’s performance against Dundee, Boyd said:

Look, I think when you go back to last weekend against Hearts, were off it but having watched the game yesterday, they were at it. It wasn’t just the goals, it was his (Kyogo’s) movement.

I thought it was excellent. I spoke to one of my mates as well, and that’s exactly what he said, his movement was unbelievable.

Even the little one-two’s to take defenders short and peel off the back of them, and Ryan Christie with the cross, it was top class finishing I must say.

Celtic are going to need their players to step up. They’ve been criticised, and rightly so. Even their own fans have been criticising them. But yesterday was a statement that they are still here, and they will challenge Rangers.

But, it’s early doors. If that team gels together, and that Rangers team gets back to the levels it was showing last season, then we’ve got an exciting title race on.

There is one more round of fixtures before the Glasgow on August 29, Celtic host St Mirren with the Ibrox side travelling to face bottom of the table Ross County.
