Celtic have made one significant change to their Europa League squad with James McCarthy replacing Leo Hjelde for the ties against AZ Alkmaar.

The former Crystal Palace midfielder was left out of the squads to play Jablonec but after a fortnight of pre-season work and making his debut against Hearts McCarthy is available for tomorrow’s first leg.

The omission of Hjelde seems to confirm the signals from Yorkshire that the teenage defender is bound for Leeds United. After playing two matches for the Celtic B team Hjelde has been missing from the wins over Annan Athletic and Vale of Leithen.

Celtic signed Hjelde from Rosenborg two seasons ago, after a dozen games on loan at Ross County in the second half of last season he looked set to progress into the Celtic first team squad but it seems that he sees his future south of the border.

Ange Postecoglou can make two changes before 11pm tonight to the squad that is registered with UEFA for the matches against the Dutch side.

Ryan Christie and Liel Abada are both injury concerns for tomorrow’s match with Postecoglou likely to provide updates at a media conference today.
