Peter Lawwell transfer deal that cost Celtic £6m

Jack Hendry has joined Club Brugge in an £8m transfer deal, two months after leaving Celtic for £2m.

A year ago Peter Lawwell negotiated a win-win deal for Oostende when the defender went on loan with a £2m price available to the Belgian side.

After breaking into the Oostende side Hendry’s game went from strength to strength. There were reports of interest from English clubs and a Scotland call up while Nir Bitton and Shane Duffy filled in alongside Kris Ajer at Celtic.

Translation: Jack Hendry is leaving for Club Brugge with immediate effect. The Scottish defender reached an agreement with the national champions and Club pays the resignation clause, which meant that KVO had no choice but to let him leave.

Lawwell probably negotiated a 10% sell on clause but within two months Oostende have pocketed a £6m profit. At Celtic Bitton is the back-up if Carl Starfelt or Stephen Welsh get injured.

Ryan Christie is expected to join Bournemouth in a £1m deal with Olivier Ntcham released last month with a year left on his Celtic contract.
