Ange Postecoglou neatly side-stepped speculation linking Celtic with Kevin Nisbet.

In mid-morning Peter Martin, who is well connected with Celtic, claimed that the Hibs striker was a transfer target with Leigh Griffiths moving in the opposite direction.

Griffiths was again missing from Celtic’s matchday squad, with trips to Ibrox and Alkmaar coming up over the next day the former Scotland striker could go into the international break without having played any competitive football.

From their pre-match interview with Postecoglou, BBC Scotland reported:

On rumours linking Celtic with Hibs striker Kevin Nisbet: “I’m not quashing, denying or confirming. There’s work we are doing off the field and hopefully we can make some announcements in the next few days.”

Other than an emotional appeal to some fans it seems unlikely that Griffiths would be wanted at Hibs where Jack Ross insists on the highest standards.

Celtic have been heavily linked with Georgios Giakoumakis of VVV Venlo but with 10 days left in the transfer window Postecoglou’s side look light in striking options.

Kyogo Furuhashi has hit the ground running following his move from the J League but there are question marks over Odsonne Edouard, Albian Ajeti and Griffiths who had two successful loan spells at Hibs before joining Celtic in January 2014.

Nisbet has worked his way up three divisions over the last three seasons scoring 14 SPFL Premiership goals from 28 starting appearances.
