Kris Boyd has congratulated Celtic for overcoming any dependency on Odsonne Edouard.

For three seasons the Frenchman has been Celtic’s top scorer spending much of that time as the only available striker.

Life without Eddie wasn’t something that fans were looking forward to with Vakoun Bayo, Patryk Klimala and Albian Ajeti barely making any impact on the first team never mind opposing goalkeepers.

Last season, in common with his team-mates Edouard was well off it with that form continuing as speculation mounts that he will be leaving the club.

Celtic have scored 16 goals over their five match winning run- remarkably Edouard has notched only once with Kyogo Furuhashi now the first choice striker.

Boyd spent most of his column in The Sun defending Ryan Kent from criticism and attacks from Ibrox fans, surprisingly he looked across the city for an explanation on how a burden can be shared:

The problem for Rangers right now is that six or seven of his team-mates are also miles off it. If they were anywhere near it then the form of Kent wouldn’t be such a massive issue.

For months and months, everyone said Celtic were lost without Odsonne Edouard firing on all cylinders. But others in the Hoops squad stepped up to the plate and now they don’t really miss him.

Gerrard’s group now have to do the same and prove they are not a one-man band.

Celtic are at home to St Mirren today knowing that a win will take them into next Sunday’s Glasgow derby at least level on points with Kent and his pals.
