Report claims that Celtic have revived their Piccini interest

Celtic are reported to be back in for Cristiano Piccini as their hunt for a right-back continues.

Josip Juranovic of Legia Warsaw has been very strongly tipped to be Celtic bound but with 10 days left in the transfer window Tony Ralston remains the only right-back with top team experience.

Piccini is in the final year of his contract with Valencia, in 2018 he was linked with a move to Celtic during what proved to be a highly frustrating summer transfer window for Brendan Rodgers.

French based website Homme du Match report:

Eager to strengthen the position of right-back, Scottish club Celtic had Fabricio Bustos as a priority, as we announced to you a few weeks ago .

For lack of agreement found with the Argentine side and his club Independiente, the Scots are now turning to Cristiano Piccini, resident of Valencia. Negotiations are underway with the Spanish club for a transfer of 2 million euros.

What insight a French based website has into the transfer of an Italian from a Spanish side to Scotland is difficult to judge.

It is now 19 days since Celtic signed Joe Hart and James McCarthy with Ange Postecoglou asked before and after every match about progress towards signing new players.

The new Celtic boss has signed five first team players but is probably looking for at least three more before the end of the month.

28-year-old Piccini has had a roving career featuring clubs such as Fiorentina, Sporting Lisbon, Real Betis, Valencia with last season spent on loan at Atalanta.
