SFA announce blundering referee for Celtic’s Ibrox clash

Kevin Clancy will referee his third Glasgow derby when he takes charge at Ibrox on Saturday.

In his first appearance in that match, in May 2019 he decided that John Flanagan elbowing Scott Brown in the face while he waited on a corner was only worth a yellow card. The Compliance Officer upgraded it to a red but that was rejected on appeal.

In December 2019 he did manage to send off Alfredo Morelos in the closing minutes at Celtic Park. While the former HJK Helsinki starlet made a throat slitting gesture as he left the pitch Clancy apparently issued a third yellow card in the dressing room after the match rather than have the issue dealt with by the Compliance Officer.

Clancy was overlooked for the five Glasgow derbies last season. Both teams go into Sunday’s match after Thursday night Europa League ties and with six points from their opening three SPFL Premiership matches.

Clancy will be assisted by David McGeachie and Frank Connor, John Beaton is the fourth official. Celtic haven’t been given any tickets for Sunday’s match which kicks off at 12 noon.
