Off camera things weren’t quite as happy as they seemed. Brendan Rodgers had been made to look foolish over failing to sign John McGinn, Dedryck Boyata had been denied a transfer to the EPL, hung out to dry, missed that night in Athens but returned to be a match-winner in the next domestic match.

Every club experience turnover, even churn but over just three years the squad that had just become the Double Treble winners has been taken apart. The 2018/19 season did finish with another Treble but Rodgers had scarpered before Odsonne Edouard won the Scottish Cup against Hearts.

After that match something dramatic took place deep inside Hampden. Neil Lennon knew the city and was appointed manager on a permanent basis, it put an immediate dampener on the Treble Treble celebrations.

This summer the biggest departure was of the guy that went up to lift the trophies, Scott Brown is at Aberdeen. Odsonne Edouard and Ryan Christie could join him out the door with Leigh Griffiths another possible departure.

Ange Postecoglou will be at the front of a picture in the next few weeks, behind him will be a much changed squad.
