Celtic fans were furious as footage of Vasilis Barkas’ ‘warm up’ was shared on Twitter.
The former AEK Athens keeper wasn’t named as a substitute but one slip from Joe Hart or Scott Bain could have saw him catapulted into action.
Last summer’s dream move might have turned into a living nightmare but there is no excuse for a lack of professionalism as Barkas barely made any effort to stop any shots in the 40 second video.
The descent of Barkas has virtually summed up Celtic’s fortunes over the last 12 months, while the team may be turning a corner it looks like the keeper has ran into a dead end.
Although he wasn’t to blame for either of the goals lost to Ferencvaros in last season’s Champions League exit there was the feeling that Fraser Forster would have stopped at least one of those goals.
Quickly it was being passed off among fans that Barkas hadn’t made a save since joining Celtic. As the season progressed he shared the goalkeeping position with Scott Bain and Conor Hazard with no one putting in a serious claim.
Ange Postecoglou gave Barkas a fresh start when he took over but after the goal lost to Midtjylland and a less than convincing 45 minutes against West Ham it looks like there will be no more chances for Celtic’s Greek Tragedy.
