Owen Moffat’s five goals against Vale of Leithen certainly caught the attention of Celtic fans on Saturday.

The teenager joined the first team squad for pre-season training in Wales where he impressed with a goal against Sheffield Wednesday and his willingness to try things while on the ball.

Moffat has been with the Celtic B team since their Lowland League campaign kicked off with Tommy McIntyre’s side racking up their fourth win on the bounce against Vale of Leithen.

The borders side seem to be in a bit of a state with their manager resigning after the previous match- a 7-1 defeat from Civil Service Strollers that left them pointless after six matches with a goal difference of 1-24.

Regardless of that Moffat’s performance was impressive, spending the first hour on the left wing then moving to centre-forward when Bruno Davidson replaced Joey Dawson.

There was a real variety to his goals, whatever the standard of the opposition the goals are the same size with the teenager rarely missing the target wherever he was positioned.

Tomorrow night Celtic face a tougher test away to Civil Service Strollers who are joint top of the league but the Young Hoops will certainly travel to Edinburgh with confidence after winning four matches in a row.

CELTIC: Olumwayemi, Jackson, Lawal, Murray, Paterson, Murphy (Deane 64), Carse (Letsosa 64) , Wylie, Vata, Dawson (Davidson 56), Moffat.
Subs: Mullen, Robertson
