David Edgar was in obvious pain as he reflected from his living room the 1-0 defeat from Dundee United.

Fresh from his appearance on GB News defending the Union the Ibrox social media sensation was back to the bread and butter of putting a positive spin on all things Ibrox related.

After losing 2-1 to Malmo in midweek today’s match should have been a confidence booster ahead of Tuesday’s £40m return leg against the Swedes.

Roared on by 4,500 fans Dundee United weren’t prepared to roll over, a 64th minute goal from Jamie Robson decided the points despite five mystical minutes of stoppage time played by Don Robertson.

Afterwards Edgar had to put his best spin on the result as fans slaughtered John Lundstrum and Ryan Kent online while questioning the commitment of want-away stars Conor Goldson and Glen Kamara.

A performance that lacked intensity, a performance that lacked drive. Bad decision making in the final third and then on the rare occasion when a chance did come not being able to take them.

I do think that Rangers fans are right to be slightly concerned about the way that the team has started the season. I’ve got no doubts that the team will improve, no doubts whatsoever that once guys get back into the run of things, like Barasic, like Morelos then they’ll improve but they need to see evidence of it.

The last two matches, two defeats in a row, which is very unlike Rangers under Steven Gerrard have not been good enough. We just haven’t been upto the standards that they’ve set.

Its not a disaster but it is a defeat. It is still early in the season, there are still questions that need to be answered and only the team can answer them.

Edgar will be able to put the concerns of worried bears to Mister Gerrard when he attends Monday’s media conference to preview the Champions League return leg against Malmo.
