Steven Gerrard has admitted that there hasn’t been a worthwhile transfer enquiry for any of his Champions League flops.

Throughout the summer there has been the usual speculation over multi-million pound bids coming in with Alfredo Morelos usually at the centre of transfer tales.

The Colombian is now in his eighth transfer window since the Chinese moonbeam was launched in January 2018 but so far nothing seious has been tabled.

Glen Kamara has previously been linked with Juventus, Borna Barisic with Roma, Ryan Kent with Leeds while the Daily Record reported speculative interest in James Tavernier from Manchester United.

Since Gerrard arrived three years ago Josh Windass is the only player to be sold for more than £1m with clubs clearly wary of the hype surrounding the squad that the Liverpool legend has put together.

Losing out on £40m from the Champions League is a near fatal blow to the club leaving transfer guru Ross Wilson with less than three weeks to make up the shortfall.

We, honestly, hand on heart, haven’t had a realistic bid in black and white for any of our players. We haven’t had a serious phone call for any of our players, that’s the reality, that’s where it is right now.

Whether the Champions League progress happened or not I don’t think that it changes too much. If the right number lands for the right player I know that in my position the board are going to bring it to me.

Despite being signed on free transfers during the summer neither John Lundstram or Fashion Sakala featured in the 2-1 defeat from Malmo on Tuesday night.
