Davie Provan has delivered a brilliant analysis of Hearts’ Premier Sports Cup defeat from Celtic.

Former Bradford City utility man Andy Halliday has emerged as a media favourite over the last year, learning to put a positive gloss on every situation.

Despite the tightness of the scoreline in last week’s match it was as one sided as Celtic’s 6-0 wins over Dundee and St Mirren.

Summing this up in his own perfectly blunt style, in The Sun Provan explained:

ANDY HALLIDAY defends Hearts’ negative approach against Celtic last weekend saying: “Celtic still had the best of the second half but we won the second half 2-1.”

Won the second half? What does that mean?

Having already beaten Celts this season, Hearts should have fancied the trip to Glasgow but wet their pants instead.

Their first-half damage limitation exercise would get football stopped. Hopefully they’ll venture out of their own half against Aberdeen.

At half time Robbie Neilson substituted Halliday after 10 first half touches chasing Celtic shadows. Against Aberdeen Halliday will be reunited with his podcast buddy Bobby Madden, enjoying his second SPFL Premiership appointment of the season- both at Tynecastle.
