After just seven appearances for Airdrie, Sam Wardrop has announced that he is quitting football at the age of 24.
The defender came through the ranks at Celtic, captaining the club to victory in the 2017 SFA Youth Cup Final playing alongside Conor Hazard, Tony Ralston and Mikey Johnston.
Wardrop left Celtic without making a first team appearance, joined Dundee United in 2018 before moving on to Dumbarton.
Over the last couple of years he has developed an interest in Personal Training, working with former team-mates and local schools on a number of areas.
I have taken a break from football for personal reasons. I’ve made a video too just to let anyone who’s interested know my reasons why. https://t.co/CFs3WQKrhO pic.twitter.com/ydvSNudUzl

Over the past few years I have learned how to improve my mood, happiness, fulfilment and satisfaction. I’ve found something I love doing: coaching and making videos (Yes tiktoks and YouTube), you might laugh? It probably sounds a bit crazy. You’re probably right!
Maybe it’s a quarter life crisis – I’m almost 24! But I have made my decision and it feels like a weight off of my shoulders. For the next year I want to fully focus on what I enjoy doing and what makes me happy – lots of coaching and videos. And that is why I’ve taken a break from football.
Thanks to social media his business has grown rapidly, from his statement it seems that it was giving him much more satisfaction than playing in SPFL League One.
