One tweet from a Southend non-league football club has resulted in a massive rise in on-line followers and a massive boost for their commercial department.
Many years ago Catholic United handed a hooped shirt to Cameron Carter-Vickers as the young defender took his first steps in football. A week on Saturday he could be running out in front of 60,000 fans at Celtic Park to face Ross County.
From 2,000 Twitter followers on Tuesday morning the club now has five times that many as Celtic fans took a shine to a club with more than a nod to the origins of their club in 1887. UPDATE….. 12,700 Twitter followers by 10pm.
Previously unsponsored footballers now have the backing of Celtic Supporters Clubs from over 400 miles away while polo shirts and other kit is heading to all corners of the British Isles.
The signing of Carter-Vickers was a very pleasant surprise for Celtic fans with the news breaking just before the transfer window closed.
Bringing in a ‘big unit’ central defender takes the pressure off Stephen Welsh and Carl Starfelt with the prospect of a permanent move at the end of the season if all parties are agreeable.

Catholic play in @CelticFC Colours because when Celtic won the European Cup back in 1967. @CatholicUtdFC sent them a congratulations letter. In return Celtic sent them a club kit and therefore now play in Celtic Colours. ?
