In what will go down as one of the biggest own goals in publishing history the Daily Record has announced an investigation into the tweets of THEIR OWN reporters.

The Glasgow based publisher has watched their circulation decline to around 70,000 print copies per day as they try to cope with the digital revolution that has left them with an elderly and out of touch readership.

Getting their own staff to go online has been part of the solution but a generation of ‘reporters’ with some very questionable views has been put into the spotlight after their expose of the Heart & Hand podcast.

Over the last 72 hours there has been an incredible amount of mud slinging between Record reporters and Ibrox fans- much to the amusement of the thousands who have always linked the two organisations.

Since the Heart & Hand story surfaced Record reporters have been busy deleting and making their Twitter accounts private which is unlikely to provide the publisher with the reach and engagement that it craves to remain relevant and survive.

With staff cut to the bone through ‘economies of scale’ while they attempt to embrace the digital era morale is likely to be rock bottom at the publisher.

Tomorrow’s Daily Record will cost 90p to buy with the Saturday special now priced at £1.40, despite intense transfer speculation Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent, Ianis Hagi, Connor Goldson, Nathan Patterson and Glen Kamara are still Ibrox players.
