Steven Gerrard suffered a double blow tonight as he watched Lyon win 2-0 at Ibrox in the Europa League with Ryan Kent suffering a hamstring injury.

The absence of Moussa Dembele and an overnight attack on the Lyon team coach seemed to swing things the way of the home side with the media in a frenzy of excitement for Mister Gerrard’s 50th European match in charge.

In mid-afternoon BT Sport were informed that Chris Sutton and Neil Lennon weren’t permitted to work at Ibrox but after that things went downhill for the Union Bears and their fellow fans.

Toko Ekambi opened the scoring midway through the first half, cutting inside James Tavernier then drilling a low diagonal shot beyond the ageing arms of Allan McGregor.

Ten minutes later things got even better when a comedy of errors ended with Tav sticking the ball into his own net.

In the 70th minute Kent pulled up injured, if the injury is as severe as it appeared he should be joining Filip Helander in the treatment room for at least a month.

On the plus side John Lundstram was able to start the match, with Ryan Jack expected to resume full training in the next 7/10 days Gerrard could soon be working with a new high quality midfield partnership.
