Ange Postecoglou will leave the decision on whether Callum McGregor faces Bayer Leverkusen upto the player.

McGregor has missed Celtic’s last four matches through an undisclosed ‘knock’ but has been back in training over the last few days.

After a run of just one win in four matches the return of the skipper would be a massive boost for Celtic as they prepare to host the side sitting in second place in the Bundesliga.

The Sun reports Postecoglou saying:

We haven’t ruled Callum out for Thursday night. He has trained and we will just see how he pulls up in training. He may very well be involved. We will give him up to the last minute.

He’s an experienced guy, he knows his body better than anyone else. But he is important to us, so we don’t want to just rush him in there.

If he feels comfortable and he’s got through training OK, he knows better than anyone else. I will have a discussion with him and then we will make a decision from there.

With a lengthy injury list and run of poor results it would give Celtic a massive boost if McGregor is available tonight but arguably Sunday’s match at Aberdeen is of more importance.

Having picked up just 10 points from seven matches a win at Pittodrie is essential if Postecoglou is to avoid further scrutiny of his methods during the international break.

James McCarthy is available for tonight’s match but Josip Juranovic is facing a couple of weeks on the sidelines due to a hamstring strain.
