Ibrox club snub media partners Sky and STV to deny cinch stadium deal to BBC Scotland

After details emerged of negotiations with cinch over naming rights at Ibrox the club has turned to BBC Scotland to respond to the claim made in court by Advocate Lord Keen of Elie QC.

Acting for the SPFL in the dispute over their cinch sponsorship deal the Court of Session was told about talks lasting until June 7 about naming rights for the Ibrox cinch Arena.

Since 2015 when Chris McLaughlin reported fans being ejected from an away match against Hibs for singing sectarian songs there has been a stand-off between the club and BBC Scotland.

With McLaughlin not welcome at Ibrox BBC Scotland haven’t attended matches or media conference is five years but that hasn’t prevented them from fawning blanket coverage of events at the club.

Yesterday’s revelations about the negotiations with cinch were highly embarrassing for Douglas Park but rather than turn to Sky Sports, STV, Go Radio or official media partners like Heart & Hand or Follow Follow they turned to BBC Scotland who were happy to pass on the message.

Both The Sun and Daily Record report the statement being given to BBC Scotland.

With the statement not appearing on the club website or with a name against it Park has avoided a direct claim of a mistruth against Lord Keen.

With the real reason for Park’s refusal to co-operate with the cinch sponsorship deal out in the open the pressure is on the SPFL to enforce the deal or punish the Ibrox club.

As cinch could walk away from the contract at any time it puts Neil Doncaster in a very difficult position with Ibrox CEO Stewart Robertson a member of the SPFL board.
