James McPake has claimed that Leigh Griffiths is looking great on his return to Dundee.

The striker signed a 12 month contract with Celtic on July 1 but moved to Dundee on a season long loan on the final day of the transfer window.

Griffiths played alongside McPake at Livingston and Dundee but that relationship will change tomorrow when Livingston visit Dens Park with neither side having an SPFL win to their name.

McPake told The Courier:

Leigh is in the squad for Saturday. He trained well today. He only played 30 minutes against West Ham for Celtic but he had 60 minutes in a bounce game and he has had a good week’s training – he is looking great and I am enjoying working with him again.

Griffiths hasn’t started a match since Celtic’s Scottish Cup win over Falkirk on April 3, it is more than 18 months since he played a full 90 minutes.

The former Hibs striker made a habit of bouncing back at Celtic with strikers ranging from John Guidetti, Nadir Ciftci, Moussa Dembele, Patryk Klimala and Vakoun Bayo all tipped to force him out the door.

Griffiths responded every time to rack up over 100 Celtic goals but it would be the biggest shock of his career if he played again for the club that he joined in January 2014 during Neil Lennon’s first spell as manager.
