New snub for wantaway Ibrox ace Morelos

Alfredo Morelos has been dumped from the Colombian international squad following his nine minutes of action at the Copa America.

That entitled the striker to an extended close season break during which he missed the Champions League qualifier away to Malmo.

Looking chunkier than usual Morelos returned to play in the 1-0 defeat at Dundee United then celebrated his Champions League goal against Malmo on social media while the 10 man Swedes shocked Ibrox by winning 2-1 to go through on a 4-2 aggregate.

For the eighth transfer window running there were no offers made for Morelos has repeatedly told Colombian radio stations of his desire to escape from Ibrox.

Covering his international snub The Sun reports:

He wasn’t called up for the last qualifiers because the Colombian FA didn’t include UK-based players as they had games in countries on the Government red list, which would have meant players had to quarantine on return.

The red list has been scrapped now and Rueda named his squad for their upcoming vital Qatar 2022 qualifiers against Uruguay, Brazil and Ecuador.

They’ve included Spurs star Davinson Sanchez, Everton defender Yerry Mina and Bournemouth midfielder Jefferson Lerma.

But Morelos has been omitted entirely despite a bumper squad of 26 players being named, with seven of them listed as strikers.

The 25-year-old has 11 caps for his country and was in their squad for this summer’s Copa America. But he played just nine minutes of the seven games in the tournament in Brazil.

Without Champions League or international football to showcase his ability Morelos will have to suffer another Scottish winter listening to tales about bids from Galatasaray, how Porto are keeping tabs on him and his agent flying to Barcelona and Madrid on shopping trips.

Rather than jetting off with his international team-mates next week Alf will be joining Tav and Connor Goldston in 5-a-sides at Murray Park with Steven Gerrard hoping that Ryan Jack will be able to join in.
