The scoring debt of Cameron Carter-Vickers provided Catholic United with a welcome pick up after yesterday’s 2-0 defeat away to Rayleigh United.

A fortnight ago the Southend side were just another community club in the Essex Olympian League but when Celtic took a defender on loan from Spurs they found themselves in the spotlight.

A congratulations tweet for Carter-Vickers caught the attention of Celtic fans, they took a look, followed and shared. From 2,000 Twitter followers they are now nudging 20,000 can’t keep up with demand for their kit, have players being sponsored from a variety of Celtic Supporters Clubs with plans in place to live stream their fixtures!

As he prepared for his Celtic debut CCV  was given an update on the quality that he would be playing alongside with news that former Celt Odsonne Edouard had scored twice in 10 minutes on his Crystal Palace debut to end Spurs’ 100% start to the season.

With Cristiano Ronaldo also scoring on his second debut for Manchester United the loan Celt decided to get in on the act with the opener for Celtic against Ross County.

No one knows where CCV’s 64th minute shot would have ended up but via a very heavy deflection it found its way into the back of the net to open the door to a 3-0 victory.

Down in Southend they raised a cheer, shared with almost 20,000 on Twitter.
