Ange Postecoglou got a half-time shock against Raith Rovers when he was told that Giorgos Giakoumakis suffered a calf strain during the warm up.

Three weeks after joining Celtic from VVV Venlo the striker was poised to make his debut as a second half substitute but injury put paid to that plan.

Celtic went 3-0 up in the 47th minute when David Turnbull found the net which should have been the perfect platform for Giakoumakis to introduce himself to the fans.

That debut has now been put back with Postecoglou telling The Sun:

We’ve sent him off for a scan so we’ll just wait and see. I haven’t spoken to him and I only found out about it at half-time when I was looking to make some changes.

He’ll be disappointed and frustrated because he’s really keen to get his career going but we didn’t sign him for two months. We signed him for a significant amount of time and we want him to have a good career here.

There’s something looming over me at the moment, just to challenge me every day. We’ll just have to cope with that.  Look, it has been challenging but there is resilience in the group.

Albian Ajeti was again the loan striker for Celtic, failing to find the net but putting in a solid hour before being replaced by Liam Scales with the team shuffled around to play without a recognised striker.

With an injury list that is headed by Kyogo Furuhashi and includes James Forrest and Callum McGregor the last thing that Postecoglou needed was another player put on the sidelines.

Celtic have three more matches before the next international break, against Dundee United, Bayer Leverkusen and Aberdeen with Postecoglou having a much reduced squad to work with over that eight day period.
