Postecoglou gets unexpected injury boost

Giorgos Giakoumakis is on schedule to make his Celtic debut at Aberdeen on Sunday.

The striker was named as a substitute for the Premier Sports Cup tie against Raith Rovers but suffered an injury in the warm up to add to Celtic’s growing injury list.

Albian Ajeti has been the only striker available to Ange Postecoglou but has failed to score in his last three matches with a first half sitter against Dundee United proving costly.

The injury list has shown little sign of easing up but asked about Giakoumakis after yesterday’s match Postecoglou told The Sun:

The scan came back actually more positive than we thought so we’re hoping he’ll get back into training this week. If Giakoumakis gets a full week of training we’re quite hopeful for next weekend.

With 11 points dropped from seven matches Celtic are badly in need of good news with a first away win of the season essential when they visit Pittodrie.

After a promising start in the side with three goals against Ross County and Real Betis Ajeti’s form has tailed off badly since then.

Thursday’s home match against Bayer Leverkusen will provide a severe test for Postecoglou but the match three days later at Pittodrie will be vital if he is to convince Celtic fans that he has the team moving in the right direction.
