Tony Ralston is apparently unavailable for Scotland duty due to medical grounds.

That is the word from the Scotland camp tonight with fans wondering where the in-form defender is in the international reckoning.

Last week in Denmark Steve Clarke turned to Andy Robertson to play at right-back with disastrous consequences.

Against Moldova on Saturday Nathan Patterson was selected with Stephen O’Donnell likely to face Austria with Paul McGinn as back-up.

Pandemic protocols have added a shroud of mystery to squad selections with the Daily Record adding to that with their claim:

It’s believed Celtic’s Anthony Ralston has been rendered unavailable for selection on medical grounds and Sheffield Wednesday’s Liam Palmer – who was axed from Clarke’s squad for the Euros – turned down an SoS for family reasons.

Ralston is a strong contender for the August Player of the Month award with two goals in the SPFL alongside six strong performances in European competition.

With Josip Juranovic signed up a former problem position is now one of Celtic’s strengths as Ange Postecoglou puts his stamp on the first team squad.

After being sidelined last season Ralston is probably bemused by the Scotland talk while knowing that there is very serious competition for a place at right-back due to the arrival of Juranovic.
