As things stand Kyogo Furuhashi and Carl Starfelt are the most expensive signings brought in by Ange Postecoglou with the fees for those players being reported at around £4.5m.

It was an extensive sweep of the transfer market by the Celtic boss boosted by close to £30m raised by the sales of Kris Ajer, Odsonne Edouard, Ryan Christie and Jack Hendry.

On the final day of the window Celtic turned to loans with Jota and Cameron Carter Vickers brought in to add some quality and depth to the squad.

Loans can be a complicated business, the deal struck with Oostende for Hendry demonstrates that but according to a Portuguese report loan structuring seem to be something that Benfica specialise in.

Jota spent last season on loan at Real Valladolid before returning to the Portuguese capital. That seems to have prompted a rethink at Benfica with Sports Witness reporting on a novel way of incentivising a loan transfer:

It’s believed that when clubs have a buying option, they tend to make more use of the player. That didn’t happen in dry loans when they knew the footballers would be sent back to Portugal at the end of the season.

Record says Jota’s move to Celtic includes a buying option of €7.5m, and the Eagles would keep 50% of a future sale in case the player stays in Glasgow.

Record is the respected Portuguese sports publisher, not their Scottish equivalent prefaced with Daily. At today’s rates €7.5m is £6.4m.

Jota has been training with Celtic since the middle of last week. On Saturday fans are likely to get their first look at the winger who could become Postecoglou’s most expensive signing of the summer.
