Celtic fans are likely to have to wait until next Thursday’s Premier Sports Cup tie against Raith Rovers to see Georgios Giakoumakis

The striker joined Celtic on Deadline Day from VVV Venlo but due to transfer speculation he hadn’t played any matches for the Dutch side.

An injury to Kyogo Furuhashi coupled with the transfers of Leigh Griffiths and Odsonne Edouard have left Celtic short of options up front with Albian Ajeti the only striker fit and available.

The former West Ham man scored twice against Ross County at the weekend and will lead the line in Seville when the hoops kick off their Europa League campaign against Real Betis.

Asked if Giakoumakis will be involved tomorrow (1 min 40), Ange Postecoglou said:

No, not for tomorrow. Like I said the other day, he’s just not quite ready yet. He’s in the boat with three or four others who we kind of expect to return around the same time, probably the weekend or next midweek. For this game it has come too early.

Liel Abada and James Forrest will be missing tomorrow to further reduce Postecoglou’s options.

The loss of Callum McGregor is probably the biggest set-back for the Celtic boss with his side facing Livingston on Sunday in the SPFL.

Next Thursday Raith Rovers visit Celtic Park with the winners of that tie going into the semi-final draw for the Premier Sports Cup.
