Ryan Kent suffered further misery last night as Steven Gerrard’s Galactico Busters came a cropper in the Europa League at home to Lyon.

The French side shrugged away the absence of Moussa Dembele and the vandalism of their team bus to hand out a lesson to Kent and friends with a 2-0 win in the opening Europa League tie.

Kent’s hopes of the fabled transfer to Leeds United came to as predictable an end as his Champions League ambitions when 10-man Malmo silenced Fortress Ibrox with a 4-2 aggregate success.

Trailing 1-0 at home Kent decided to show the French side a sample of the skills that have bamboozled St Mirren, Livingston and Ross County defenders in recent seasons.

Unfortunately for the former Anfield starlet he tripped over himself, presented the ball to a Lyon forward and before he had got back to his feet Connor Goldson and James Tavernier had presented Lyon with their second goal.

With 20 minutes left to play Kent suffered a hamstring injury that is likely to rule him out of contention for a place in the England squad for next month’s World Cup qualifiers.

The good news for Steven Gerrard is that Ryan Jack is expected to resume full training in the next 7/10 days after successfully undergoing knee surgery in April. Steve Clarke is believed to be ecstatic at that news.
