Albian Ajeti was the unlikely hero of Celtic’s 3-0 win over Ross County.
The striker had been reduced to a bit part figure this season with Kyogo Furuhashi and Odsonne Edouard competing for a place in Ange Postecoglou’s side.
With Edouard and Leigh Griffiths moving out on transfer deadline day and Kyogo injured on international duty the door opened for Ajeti through an unlikely combination of circumstances.
Recent signing Georgious Giakoumakis watched today’s match from the stand with the former West Ham man taking the opportunity with both hands through two headers.
Midway through the first half Ajeti was put through on goal, it was an opportunity tailor-made for a left footed shot at goal but keeping the ball on his right the Celtic striker choked on his shot allowing Ross Laidlaw to save comfortable.
In the 70th minute the big moment arrived for Ajeti, a high cross from Liel Abada was headed into net with Ajeti hanging in the air.
He wasn’t finished either. Four minutes from the final whistle James McCarthy headed off the crossbar with Ajeti well placed to nod the rebound into the net.
Perhaps a corner has been turned for the Swiss internationalist. Odsonne Edouard demonstrated his quality against Spurs today but as one player leaves it creates an opportunity for others, today Ajeti took his to hand Ange Postecoglou something to ponder going forward.
