Josip Juranovic has given a significant insight into leadership inside the Celtic squad.

Taking on the captaincy is a responsibility that Callum McGregor takes in his stride with his influence obvious through the game and also in the pre-match build up.

Although he isn’t long in the door Joe Hart took on the captaincy with ease when McGregor was out injured but in just six appearances in a new country there are obvious signs of leadership from Juranovic.

Those six appearances have yielded two goals from the penalty spot with the Croatian relishing the responsibility to convert from 12 yards out.

Asked about his own leadership strengths Juranovic said:

I don’t want to be like leader-leader (as in captain) but I want to be support to our captain, to Joe Hart because on the pitch you cannot hear everybody. If you have in one line (area of the pitch) one guy that will lead that is the most important thing in the team. Like that we are growing up.

By his demeanour it seems that the Croatian international right-back is quite happy to play on the other side of the park as he settles into his new club.

At a reported fee of just over £2m from Legia Warsaw it already seems money well spent, at the age of 26 Celtic could see the best years of Juranovic’s career as he competes with Tony Ralston for a position that has been a problem since Mikael Lustig started to decline.
