Borna Barisic has been told that playing for Seco is damaging his international prospects.

The defender moved to Ibrox in the summer of 2018 in a £2m deal soon after failing to make the Croatian squad that reached the final of the World Cup in Russia.

After a grim first season the Scottish media got into gear with tales about Roma keeping tabs and preparing a bid although nothing ever materialised.

Barasic has been in and out of the Croatian side over the last year but is now firmly on the outside looking in as coach Zlatko Dalic builds a new younger side following the peaks of the recent past.

Speaking to the Daily Record about the Ibrox star, Dalic said:

I am happy with the growing number of young players who are coming and the growing competition. Borna is here and in competition.

The competition is very strong, there are players who play in the Bundesliga and stronger clubs. I would like the situation to open up for him, but competition is very strong, but Borna is also in the mix. Whoever I put, I will not go wrong.

Next month Barisic will celebrate his 29th birthday, his Ibrox contract runs until 2024 with no sign of Juventus or Roma following up on transfer enquiries.
